Insanity My Mad Life Charlie Bronson Stephen Richards 9781904034315 Books Reviews

His time at Broadmoor is barely touched upon in his other book "Bronson". This covers some familiar material while expanding even further on his time served in the asylum. It reads easy, but the subject matter itself is inherently tough to get through. I revert back to this about once a year. It helps me keep familiarized with my own "shadow," as Carl Jung dubbed it.
This is a corker of a book!

People say, “Would you want Charles Bronson living next door to you?”

I honestly wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Decency, I believe, and virtue to a certain extent, are about character; honour, integrity, compassion, unselfishness and moral courage.

Bronson’s books are quite funny in places, but he comes across as someone whose loyalty is stronger than blood, and whose integrity is hard as nails.

He’s never killed anyone yet he’s been in prison for over 30 years, the majority of that time spent in solitary confinement as prison governors do everything they can to break him. He’s inside that long mainly because he keeps taking people hostage, chinning screws and carrying out rooftop protests, costing the system millions. And it’s the system that this book is really about. How insane it is that murderers come into prison, gain parole after a few short years, go out and kill again, and arrive back in prison. And meanwhile Bronson, fighting against that very same system watches them come and go, and yet he’s still banged up!

As the book draws to a close it becomes very clear that it’s the system itself that drove him insane, but it’s also that insanity that kept him sane.

Read it!
sent to my boyfriend who is currently in solitary confinement(soon to be released in 2 weeks). he said it was so good he's mad he finished reading it so fast!
great book enjoyed it
It's hard to believe a man could survive this many years of brutality and constantly being moved from prison to prison in mostly solitary confinement. No human being should have to endure this kind of treatment. And to receive a life sentence for hostage taking? Sad, heartbreaking true story.
He tends to ramble sometimes and some of his thoughts don't come through right away. It was interesting enough I found myself looking for additional details elsewhere while I read through the book. Overall a good read.
Pretty good read.
Fascinating man!
Respect for the fact that he will tell his story. And damn does he tell his story!!
A product of the system? Difficult one! You'll have to make your own mind up on that one!
Worth reading.
Somewhat repetitive in places would be my only criticism.
