A Steep Price Tracy Crosswhite Book 6 edition by Robert Dugoni Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Robert Dugoni continues to hit all the right notes with the latest entry in the Tracy Crosswhite series, "A Steep Price". This around, the story delves into issues as varied as race, drugs, poverty, culture, education, pregnancy and workplace.

Tracy and her partner, Kins, are called in to help investigate the disappearance of a young University of Washington student. When her body is found at the bottom of an abandoned well not far from her home, the initial ruling is suicide. But Tracy's not buying it and investigates it as a murder.

Meanwhile, Faz and Del are assigned to the killing of a local mother and activist in a high crime neighborhood. Their investigation puts them at odds with both the community and the cartel that seems to run things. It also puts them into real danger.

The author keeps everything fluid and moving and real, including Tracy's conundrum about when and how to announce her pregnancy. As usual, the writing is crisp and clear and realistic, right down to the park I pass almost every day on the way to work.

A Steep Price Tracy Crosswhite Book 6 edition by Robert Dugoni Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

This is an outstanding homicide thriller with just the right amount of action and is a very compelling read.

This is actually two homicide stories involving detectives in the Seattle Police Homicide Division. Both narratives move at a steady speed, and keep the action galvanic. The storyline grabs hold from the beginning and doesn’t let go.

The characters are well-developed and have clearly defined personalities. They are believable and might even remind a reader of an acquaintance. The actions are credible, and the stories could very well be true to life. The dialogue is not stilted and the tale is written in such a way that the reader has a good mental image without gory descriptive murder scenarios, lots of foul language or explicit sex scenes. There are enough scoundrels to keep the reader guessing as to who done it! All in all, a very well thought out plot and character development.

A new detective shows up on the scene, and, for various reasons, Tracy takes a dislike to her. Tracy’s colleague, Vic Fazzio (Faz), soon has his own reason to dislike and distrust the newcomer. Faz’s regular partner, Del, is taking a day or so of sick leave. Meanwhile, Faz gets temporarily partnered with the new detective, and her actions cause some serious distrust and anguish for him. Faz’s spouse’s health issues and his newly created job stresses are almost overpowering. When Del and Faz get back together, they work to solve, not only a murder case, but the mystery of who the new detective really is. The story gains momentum and becomes electrifying as Faz finds himself in a prickly situation in which he really could use some help…..maybe a lot of help.

Tracy Crosswhite, along with her partner Kins, is called in to investigate the disappearance of a university student. The girl’s parents hold onto the customs of another time and another country, while the missing girl is an all American girl. When her body is found, there are suggestions of suicide; however, Tracy feels that a homicide probe is the order of the day. The investigation leads to the baring of some surprising secrets of both the murdered girl and her family.

Tracy has a secret of her own that is about to be revealed, and her life is in for a big change.

The stories shift back and forth with expertise, and the reader does not lose track of who, what, where or when. Both tales are put together nicely and end up like a finished jigsaw puzzle with every piece fitting in place perfectly.
5+ stars Excellent

Short review read it.

Robert Dugoni is a must buy, must read author. This stand-alone is easy to follow and difficult to put down. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama.

Intriguing storyline with two separate homicide cases. Descriptive writing that draws the reader into each scene and the emotions evoked. Realistic procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking, informative and snarky dialogue.

'His profile said he was a computer software engineer and he was opening his own start-up company.” She scoffed again. “He was an unemployed computer programmer living in the garage of his parents’ home.'

“The Internet is a dangerous place,” Peterson said, without looking at her computer. “You can go online and protect your identity, but then, so can the person you’re targeting. It can be a very deadly game.”

I will re-read this story and always look forward to, pre-order when possible, new works by this author.
I just finished this book. If there was a basis for giving a book 6 stars, I would give it to this book.
I’ve read all the Tracy Crosswhite books. Each has been a great read. No question, Robert Dugoni is a terrific story teller. This book was outstanding all the way through.
I don’t re tell story lines in my reviews. Instead I analyze the read by plot, character development, rising and falling action, anti climax (where evident). And, of course, resolution.
I’m suspending my normal approach in this instance.
What I want to say, is how much I was impressed with the story telling approach the author used in this read. There are several stories interweaving with each other in this book. Each story has its own chapter and each contains a mini “cliff hanger” at the end of the chapter. Ordinarily, I dislike cliff hangers, because their sole motivation...from the writer’s point of view is to entice the reader to read the next book. In other words such books are not stand alone reads.
The beauty of this read is that every “cliff hanger” is resolved at the end of this book! I marveled at the way Dugoni put this all together. And, he did.
To be any more specific would be a big ***spoiler alert***.
But by doing it the way his did, is again, a 6 star effort on his part and one of the best books I’ve read to date.
You do not need to read any of the prior Crosswhite books in order to appreciate this book, Each is a stand alone unto it self. However, what I will say is that each of the prior books enriched this read very nicely.
I greatly recommend this book.
